About

The Willow Club Whitley Bay was founded in 1938 with the mission to foster Friendship, Goodwill and Understanding.  It is open to all retired men irrespective of age.  The Club does not discriminate on racial, political or religious grounds and has no political or religious affiliations.

Meetings with a speaker and refreshments are held on Thursday mornings in the Wesley Hall, St John’s Methodist Church, Ilfracombe Gardens, Whitley Bay, NE26 3ND.

Meetings begin at 10.30 am and close by 12.00 noon.  The Club’s relationship with St John’s Church is solely as a tenant of the Wesley Hall.

There is free car parking at the church and in the street.  There is an access ramp from the car park, and thereafter everything is on the ground floor and level for wheelchair access.

The main business of the Club is the weekly meetings, there have in the past been  trips to places of interest, usually arising out of talks, and in past years a donation to a nominated regional charity.  Recipients have been the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, St Oswald’s Hospice and the Tynemouth Blind Welfare Society.  The Club also takes the opportunity to watch out for its members so that if, for example, a regular attender goes missing inquiries can be made and help and support offered as appropriate.
